Raúl Valladares Valdés was born in Havana city in 1960. He is a sculptor and goldsmith of self-taught formation, with numerous personal and collective exhibitions realized in Cuba and in other countries. He also has a recognized educational labor in the formation of goldsmiths and Cuban sculptors.
Valladares has obtained numerous recognitions, among which are: A recognition to his work at the V Bienal “Domingo Ravenet” (1994); Award to the best sample of gold work granted by the firm Coral Negro (Black Coral) at the V International Fair of Crafts FIART ‘ 95; Gold medal in the line of humidores in the XV International Fair of Havana (FIHAV, 1997) and Picasso Medal delivered by UNESCO (1997). He has also been chosen as Member of Merit of the Cuban Craftsmen Artists Association (ACAA), institution that in addition gave him in the year 2010 the maximum distinction: the Prize “Manos”.
Thanks to his artistic labor it has been honored in multiple occasions by the government of the locality where he resides and for other institutions of the Cuban State. Another achievements as artist was the designation of better sculptor of the year 2003 (Máster of 2003), granted by the magazine BTDesing Art Gallery, one of the most prestigious websites specialized in art. He was decorated in 2005 with the Distinction by the National Culture that is delivered in exceptional cases by the Council of State of Cuba and also the prize “Gitana Tropical”, delivered by the Provincial Direction of Culture of City of Havana (October, 2008).
For his skill, creative ingenuity and excellence in the technology used in his handcrafted work, the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods (FCBC) awarded him the Handcrafted Mastery in FIART’s frame 2008.
He is the creator of the trophy Hombre Habano del Año (Cigar Man of the Year in Havana), as well as of the prize Majadahonda delivered by UNEAC to the artists of relevant works. He once dedicated his work to rewarding the champion equipment of the National Series of the Baseball and was the author of the trophy “Grand Prix Corners Restrict ” of the water sports Formula I in 1996. Creator equally of the trophy “Wedge of Silver “, with which it is rewarded to the best work in the National Lounge of the Leather of the Craftsmen’s Cuban Association Artists and of the “Silver Jellyfish”, principal award of the international event of Sub aquatic Photography FOTOSUB.
His works are part of the permanent collections of institutions and galleries in several parts of the world, as well as in private collections in Germany, Spain, the United States, France, Switzerland, Austria, Mexico, Italy, England, Greece, Holland, among others. International personalities possess works of this artist, the famous actor Jeremy Irons, the Emir of Qatar, His Majesty the king of Spain, presidents Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro and the world renowned film director Steven Spielberg. His work was chosen as a gift to the President of China Hu Jintao, during his official visit to Cuba in the year 2008.
He is a member of the Cuban Craftsmen Artists Association (ACAA) and of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
